Gvozd Wind Farm Enters the Final Phase: Substation Infrastructure Ready for the Next Step

Podgorica, 20.04.2026.

Works on the power infrastructure within the Gvozd Wind Power Plant project are entering the final phase, with the substation plants at the Gvozd and Krnovo locations being implemented to a high degree and ready for the next operational steps. The start of the energization process has been announced for today, as well as testing the functionality of the system, which enters the key phase of technical verification of the project.

Within the framework of this infrastructure segment, the joint contractor XEnergy and Elnos Serbia (JV) are working on the implementation of the entire transmission infrastructure, including the construction of a new 110/33 kV Gvozd substation, the reconstruction and expansion of the Krnovo substation, the expansion of the 110/35 kV "Nikšić 1" substation, as well as the construction of the 110 kV Gvozd-Krnovo and Gvozd-Nikšić transmission lines, including the reconstruction of a part of the existing route and all accompanying construction, electrical and integration works necessary for the connection of the system.

As the representative points out XEnergy, the works at the Gvozd and Krnovo substations have been completed despite the challenging execution conditions:

"We have managed to bring the works on the substation plants to completion at a high degree of implementation, despite the demanding weather conditions during the winter period. The beginning of energization is an important step forward and an introduction to the phase of testing and verifying the functionality of the system", said Srđan Laković, Head of Implementation and Supervision in the company XEnergy Ltd Podgorica and Deputy Project Manager on behalf of JV XEnergy & Elnos.

He particularly emphasized the importance of coordination of all participants in the project, including the partner Elnos Serbia, as well as subcontractors Ramel, Builder Fox and Gomex Processing, and Laki Construction, whose contribution was key to the realization of this complex infrastructure segment.

The overall project of the Gvozd wind farm is being implemented for the investor Green Gvozd Ltd. and represents one of the most important investments in the field of renewable energy sources in Montenegro. With an installed capacity of 54.6 MW and an estimated annual production of around 150 GWh, it is possible to supply approximately 25,000 households.

The project is being implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, while Bemax is engaged for construction works and construction of wind turbines, and turbine equipment is provided by Nordex Group.

From the aspect of electricity infrastructure, the completed works on the substations represent a key step towards the functional connection of the wind farm with the transmission network. At the same time, the works on transmission lines carried out by the JV partner, Elnos Serbia, continue in accordance with the planned dynamics of the project.

In the coming period, the focus is on final tests, checking the functionality of the system and coordinating all phases leading to the commissioning of the wind farm.
