Podgorica, 10 May 2026
The Gvozd wind farm has been officially put into trial operation, making Montenegro a significant step in the development of renewable energy sources and strengthening the domestic energy infrastructure.
The opening ceremony of the project was attended by the highest state officials, representatives of the energy sector, international institutions and partners involved in the implementation of one of the most important energy projects in the modern history of the country.
As part of the project, JV. XEnergy Podgorica & Elnos Group Serbia has implemented a key segment of the electricity infrastructure necessary to connect the wind farm with the transmission system of Montenegro.
The works included the construction of a new substation SS 110/33 kV Gvozd, reconstruction and expansion of substation Krnovo, extension of substation 110/35 kV substation "Nikšić 1", as well as construction of 110 kV transmission lines Gvozd-Krnovo and Gvozd-Nikšić, with accompanying electrical, construction and integration works.
As pointed out by Saša Đurasović, project leader on behalf of the consortium XEnergy & Elnos, the realization of the project represented a significant professional challenge and confirmation of the capacity of domestic and regional companies to carry out complex infrastructure projects.
"During almost a year of work, one of the biggest challenges was to coordinate activities on five construction sites at the same time and ensure the harmonized work of all teams, partners and subcontractors in accordance with demanding deadlines and technical standards," said Đurasović.
Partners and subcontractors Ramel, Builder Fox, Gomex Processing and Laki Construction also participated in the implementation of the project.
With an installed capacity of 54.6 MW, the Gvozd wind farm has an estimated annual production of about 150 GWh of electricity, which is enough to supply approximately 25,000 households, with a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions.

The project was implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), while the investor of the project is Green Gvozd Ltd. Bemax was engaged for construction works and construction of wind turbines, while the equipment for turbines is provided by Nordex Group.
For XEnergy and Elnos, the Gvozd wind farm project is an important reference in the field of electricity infrastructure development and confirmation that local and regional companies have the knowledge, experience and operational capacities to participate in projects that shape the energy transition of Montenegro and the region.
