Gvozd Wind Farm – Investment in Montenegro's Energy Future

Near the village of Gvozd, municipality of Nikšić, one of the most important renewable energy projects in Montenegro is being implemented – a wind farm with a capacity of 54.6 MW. The project is implemented in partnership between Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) and Green Gvozd d.o.o., with the financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which has approved a corporate loan in the amount of EUR 82 million. The wind farm is expected to produce at least 141 GWh of clean energy per year, which directly contributes to reducing the share of thermal sources in the country's energy mix.

As part of the complex infrastructure intervention on the project "Gvozd", XEnergy, in a consortium with Elnos Group from Belgrade as the lead partner, is responsible for the implementation of works on connecting the wind farm to the power grid, within LOT 3: Grid Connection Works.

Contracted works include:

  • Construction of a new substation 33/110kV "Gvozd"
  • Expansion of the existing 33/110kV "Krnovo" substation
  • Extension of the 110/35kV substation "Nikšić 1"
  • Construction of 110kV overhead line "Gvozd – Krnovo"
  • Construction of the 110kV overhead line "Gvozd – Nikšić", including the reconstruction of the line "Nikšić 1 – Bileća"

These works are carried out on a turnkey basis, which includes all phases – from design, preparation and execution to commissioning. The project is divided into several public procurements, and the Grid Connection phase (LOT 3) is the most important segment for the integration of produced energy into the national system.

The construction and connection of the Gvozd wind farm represents a strong step towards strengthening Montenegro's energy independence, contributing to the achievement of climate goals and positioning the country as a leader in the region when it comes to the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future.
